Some of us were at the 2025 Prayer Summit, which was held at Sunway Resorts Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. This is an annual event organised by Love Singapore. We were all reminded again of the wider vision to turn Singapore Godward, Win the Youths and Reach the Nations.
It is indeed just a different way of saying the same thing in regards to the Mission of the Church. Love Singapore is a unique prayer and unity movement pioneered by the earlier generation of pastors like Lawrence Khong, Rick Seaward, Lai Kheng Pousson, Edmund Chan, Bishop Moses Tay etc. Over the years, it has certainly brought many pastors and leaders together, building friendships and partnerships beyond our own churches or denominations.
One can say that it is easy to foster unity in a compact city nation. However, having a thousand churches in a small area can also create competition, friction and misunderstanding. We are also all very different and don’t necessary agree on many areas. Through gathering, praying and worshipping together, walls have indeed been lowered and trusting friendships have emerged. There have been various crises that could impact the harmony in our multi-religious society or the public witness of the Church. These friendships have enabled pastors to help one another to resolve some of these crises and help to position the Church in the best possible light. This unity has also fostered ministry partnerships.
Over the years, the diversity of participants has also increased. For example, in this Summit, participants included leaders from “conservative” churches and organizations. A Chinese-speaking track was also included.
It has been observed that this unity is strong and unique. It is not easily found in other cities or nations and we can attribute it to the work of the Spirit over the years. Today, the Love Singapore leadership team have been refreshed and led by younger pastors.
I found it encouraging to see many youth pastors and leaders there. If they are the “future” of the church, there is indeed much to be hopeful about.
