I Will Build My Church

We are honoured to have our Bishop and Archbishop, Titus Chung, with us today

for our annual Parish Confirmation Service. In other years, Assistant Bishops

have deputized for him as he serves across various parishes in Singapore and

our six deaneries. Let us extend a warm welcome to him as he joins the MPCC

community.

Over the years, our Diocese has expanded significantly, encompassing diverse

ministries such as medical, educational, and community services both here and

across our deaneries. We are blessed with a growing team of clergy, chaplains,

and parish workers. The role of our bishop is both demanding and complex,

given these responsibilities.

In addition to his diocesan duties, Bishop Chung also serves as the Archbishop

of the Province of Southeast Asia, which includes the Dioceses of West Malaysia,

Sarawak, Sabah, and Singapore. He faces significant challenges within our global

Anglican Communion. Please keep Bishop Titus and his wife, Connie, in your

prayers, asking for their continued good health, strength, and wisdom.

The strength of our Church is rooted in each of its members. In every

Confirmation Service, we welcome new members into the Anglican Church. It is

through the giving, service, and lives of Christians that we maintain the intricate

network of ministries.

Our parish’s resources and efforts significantly impact our wider Anglican family.

For instance, MPCC and our daughter congregation, Chapel of Christ Our Hope,

actively support St. Andrew’s Autism Centre and St. Andrew’s Adult Home, with

our Vicar’s Warden, Lee Chew Chiat, chairing the board leading this work. We

have also begun exploring ministry opportunities in the Deanery of Thailand.

Our youth staff contribute to various Diocesan programs, and we collaborate

with St. Peter’s Hall (TTC) to develop and host our online liturgical resources.

Additionally, we are piloting new Diocesan preparation materials for Baptism

and Confirmation courses, providing valuable feedback. MPCC’s involvement

spans various areas, reflecting our commitment to serving in diverse ways.

This is the beauty of the Body of Christ: when every member serves, the work of

the Lord flourishes. Indeed the work and responsibilities seem less daunting when all hands are on deck. That’s why we encourage everyone at MPCC to

approach Confirmation with all seriousness. It represents a commitment to the

Church spiritually, communally, and legally, including governance and legal

responsibilities.

As we serve, we envision the impact on future generations. Our forefathers have

left us a remarkable legacy, evident today in both church and society.

At this Service, as Bishop lays his hand on each confirmand, we pray for the Holy

Spirit’s guidance and empowerment. We need the Holy Spirit to lead and

strengthen His Church. As Jesus promised in Matthew 16:18, “I will build my

church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
